答案：Phonetics is the study of speech sounds, including the production of speech, that is, how speech sounds are actually made, transmitted and received, the description and classification of speech sounds, words and connected speech, etc. By how speech sounds are produced, transmitted and received into three main areas:
1. Articulatory phonetics – the study of the production of speech sounds
2. Acoustic phonetics – the study of the physical properties of the sounds produced in speech
3. Auditory(perceptual) phonetics – the study of perception of speech sounds
Most phoneticians are interested in articulatory phonetics.
